Welcome!

Welcome to my website and blog.

Cristina Unlike traditional professionals, my work is based on understanding primitive and instinctual needs as they pertain to space. My philosophy is that good design is more than just a great look, it makes a difference in how people feel. We can work together to make your space be what you need it to be, whether it is a home, commercial office or retail space.

I’ve helped new businesses get established with optimum floor plans, color selections, directional flow with consideration of inventory display cases, customer satisfaction, and profitable returns.    I can design cubicle space to enhance satisfaction, efficiency, communications, growth and profitability.

Although byCristina.com is new, I will be adding lots of ideas and photos of my work, so check back often.  You can subscribe to updates by using any of the RSS feeds, or follow me on Twitter and Facebook.  And, if I can help you redefine your space in any way, please contact me at 619-322-4948.

With today’s economy it takes more than just great inventory and marketing efforts to put cash in the kitty. It takes more than hiring more sales rep to push harder for your product line or service. All these efforts  might help however have you ever looked beyond the basic scope of  Business 101?

Here are a few scenarios that often times many business don’t  even considered yet it can be the ultimate driving force of putting them under too. These scenarios below may sound odd at first but reallly let it sink in and think about each one of them and see if they relate to your own business space.

For example, do your employees  seem happy and have you ever asked them if they love where they sit and work?  If not, then why not? Their your primary asset to success aren’t they?   Heads up, cubicles by the way are killing corporate America and are so destructive to the people who have to work in most of them. You might think their fine but I dare you take an anonymous poll and find out the truth if you don’t already know.  There are ways to fix a few of the issues that are “physical affecting” the strength and ill affects these cubicles create for your employees and business yet it takes a specialest who understands how the working environment affects humans and their natural instincts.  I realize this might sound odd to many of you yet it’s really very simple, when your employees are happy and love their working environment and where they are force to put  their energy all day working for you, you can bet that will increase your revenue substantially. That’s basic knowledge, isn’t it?

How about you customers and clients when they walk in your work area or retail store do they feel invited, welcomed and easily relaxed? For example, have you noticed if your customers walk in and linger and look around and buy or do they seem to walk in just so far and leave within a few minutes again? Do you customers return or never come back? If there is a problem that’s a clue that’s something in your space is affecting them. No matter how great you think your place might look, how does it “feel” is what counts the most? Most often times people sense there is something that is an issue but they can’t see it. That’s where byCristina comes in.

Did you know there are actual conference tables and specific shapes that will help you to communicate better at than other table shapes? A key point when trying to win your customers confidence and put them at ease or improve communication among your employees. Don’t you think?

Did you know there are specific chairs at any table within a room that will offer you a perception of more power than other chairs might? Of course that would also  be the hot seat you want when you’re giving a presentation or trying to negotiate, gain power or win a deal, isn’t it? In fact, this is true for any environment such as a  standing room, convention hall, store or place.  Knowing these simple clues and what to look for will help in giving you more perceived power  and position people correctly so they too are always in a place of power and availability to everyone around them.  How much is that worth to you and your customers or clients?

Did you know that there are some displays cases that will actually prevent you from picking up merchandise? Which is great if you have inventory that is fragile and you do not want any one to touch it. However, most often times you want your customers to touch, feel, hold and buy your merchandise so it’s key that you understand the difference. Yet, this can also be the very thing that puts a business under if they don’t get it or know these powerful tools.

How about your customers and clients?  Did you know there are ways to lure them in and right off the street and without using a sign or calling out to them? Can you imagine it being so easy and it is! In fact, I proved it to a client and told him I could get a customer in his store within 15 minutes. He owned a small cigar shop in downtown La Mesa, CA and hadn’t had a customer in all day. So I did a simple minor change at the front door using what he already had and bamm, 8 minutes later, 2 ladies walked in. Obviously not his traditional buying clients but it was the lure that caught their attention and brought them and it worked. Now they can also spread the word around about his great cigar shop. My client was thrilled. Then 3 minutes later another customer walked in and purchased himself a few special cigars as a gift for his Dads birthday. He wasn’t sure what he was going to buy his Dad either until he happen to be walking by and again, the lure we placed got his attention. The consultation was successful and  that was just the beginning. This small business is thriving and fortunately, the changes we made, worked and kept his business up and going and that was a far cry when I first walked in.

ByCristina has something to offer that goes beyond your traditional marketing efforts and financial analysis review or squeezing efforts to stay afloat. It’s about your working space and making sure it is working for you and giving you every possible profitable return you deserve. It’s putting the things you own or people who work for you in the  power areas and making sure your customers and clients have every chance to be “feel great” about coming back to your space and buying. From color changes to furnishing changes to just rearranging , to  new start up business or working along side your architect or designer. Every consultation starts right at the front door and we go right on in from there.

I invite you to read the testimonials here  and see what kind of impact our consultations have made.  If you sense something isn’t working right and you just can’t put your finger on it,  that’s your instinct telling you and   listen to it and make this call to find out why, where and what. You’ll learn more about your work space  and even yourself in ways that you assure you a chance to stay in business and bottom line, help you increase revenue and gain new power and knowledge that is based on primitive needs and power, guaranteed!

Color your way to profit!

I’m very passionate about color, especially in business environments where customer traffic is key to generating revenues, such as in retail, service, and restaurant businesses. Color can be equal to or even greater than physical stimulus. Here are some goals that I set when working with my clients on color design:

Doctors, Therapists, Libraries–Color should relax, offer a feeling of safety, and being settled. Color should not create tension, stress or anxiety.

Fitness, Activities, Sports–Color can create excitement and activity. Participants will feel energized and ‘pumped up’ each time the walk in. Avoid relaxing colors.

Restaurants, Grocery Stores, Markets–Color can affect appetite, hunger, and thirst.

Properly selected colors can really boost your bottom line through increased revenue, and at the end of the day, more profit.

So call me today, and lets paint money on your walls.

Have you ever walked into a retail store never to return again?  Perhaps there was nothing specific but it just didn’t “feel” quite right.  How about in your own business?  Do customers linger to some areas of your store but not other areas?  Have you offered excellent customer service but cannot seem to maintain repeat business?  Does your store stay empty while your competitor across the street seems to always be busy?  If you answered yes to any of these questions I can help you.

The key to any business success goes beyond offering great products or services.  It means understanding the instinctive needs and specific motivational behaviors for your type of business space.  We must also pay attention to specific stimulus needs (colors on the walls, furnishings,  display cases, elements).  Improving these can increase customer buying power, incoming store traffic and even improve communication among employees for better internal performance.

In the last 6 years I’ve helped many businesses…restaurants, Chiropractors, retail stores, and more, increase their customer satisfaction, customer traffic, repeat business and even bottom line profits.  Sometimes large changes are required, but sometimes small subtle changes can be all that are needed to achieve powerful and measurable results.

Cocooning

With the creation of the Internet, home entertainment technology, and advances in communication technology, we are spending much more time at home.  In fact, we may not leave our home for days at a time.  This trend is known as cocooning.  Cocooning adds value in the form of convenience, and it makes your living environment more important than ever.  Your living environment is a means of survival and can offer you and your family strength, support, growth, energy, communication, movement, flow, success, and stability.  The key is designing and having a space that can offer this type of harmonious environment.

Many of my clients are cocooning by working at home.  Before contacting me, they were functioning in a space that was nothing more than just a cardboard box with fluorescent lights overhead.  This can lead to depression, irritability, and an inability to concentrate.  Their lives were filled with chaos.  They complain of fatigue, weight problems, procrastination and illness.

Sometimes the simplest of changes can have a large positive benefit.  In the photo below, we found an old table in the client’s backyard, and a linen table cloth that was not being used.   This transformed a cold kitchen corner into a warm, welcoming and inviting space.

Other clients have gone the opposite way–Cocooning with too much “stuff.”  De-cluttering this type of space is crucial to creating a home environment that is beneficial.  There’s no value if your stuff has a negative impact on you and your family if you look at it every day.  Loving your space on the other hand adds value at every glance and can lift your energy, improve concentration, encourage health and weight loss and more.

Be mindful to your own space, while cocooning, and be sure it is offering the benefits of human survival.

Client Testimonial

Thanks again for your invaluable consultation for our home in Oceanside.  Bob has painted the bedrooms the colors we picked out with you and they look fantastic!  He was a little afraid as he began but kept telling himself “keep going, don’t stop” as you also suggested.  Will let you know when the other rooms are done so you can see for yourself.

Hi Cristina,

Sam and I painted the house with the base color that you suggested.  We love it!-We have almost completed the back balcony and it is already so much more peaceful and comfortable in the bedroom! – My Husband added a solor tube to the interior stairway.   It really brightens up the heart of the house and makes it feel so much better….I had not really realized how much the darkness bugged me!  I swear that I feel happier now that we have a little light coming into the darkest areas!!!

Even though there are tough economic times our jobs seem to be more stable.  As a matter of fact, the Development team placed a request to have me transferred out of Support and into Development.  That is good news!

Client Testimonial

I first came to know Cristina through a private consultation because our house sat for sale without offers for six months.  The first showing after our the quick redesign, we received an offer to buy our home.  So when it came time to design my business retail space, Cristina was the first person I called.  She quickly identified the foot traffic scenarios and visual barriers, the power areas where product would sell, and overall, offered fabulous advice on design touches.

We feel the difference the design has made in the ambience of our retail store versus other stores we visit.  We even tested her ‘power corner’ theory by switching out product, and she was absolutely spot on!  I have since used Cristina for two other focused jobs in our home.  Cristina’ s opinion sometimes completely changes the direction I was headed, and she gives me time to mull over her suggestions without being pushy.  I haven’t regretted for a second asking her opinion.

I’m happy to say that Cristina is no longer one of my “consultants”, but I now consider her a friend. She is fun, a pleasure to work with, and always makes me laugh.
